Why does Say the Time set my computer’s ahead/behind X number of hours?

This problem may be the result of an incorrect Time Zone setting. You can check your Time Zone settings by following these steps:

  1. Click the Start button, then click Control Panel.
  2. In Control Panel…
    In Windows XP:

    1. Select the Clock, Language, and Region category.
    2. Click the Date and Time icon.
    3. In the Date and Time Properties window, click the Time Zone tab.

    In Windows Vista:

    1. Select the Date, Time, Language and Regional Options category.
    2. Click the Date and Time icon.
    3. In the Date and Time window, click the Change time zone button.
  3. Change your Time Zone settings, if required.
  4. If you changed your Time Zone settings, restart your computer.

You can try synchronizing your computer’s time after Windows as started by choosing the Sync Date/Time option on the Say the Time menu. If your time is still incorrect, then tell Say the Time to adjust only the minutes/seconds by following these steps:

  1. From the Say the Time menu, click Settings….
  2. In Say the Time Properties window, click the Time Synchronization tab.
  3. Check the box beside the Only adjust the minutes and seconds option.
  4. Click OK.
  5. You may need to manually adjust the hours — you can do that through the Date/Time Properties as outlined above.
