Why can’t I connect to any of the Internet time servers?

The problem is likely the result of connecting behind a firewall. Not all firewalls are configured to allow SNTP protocol messages by default. This prevents Say the Time from contacting Internet time servers.

The following firewall incoming packet filter rule will allow Say the Time to use the SNTP protocol while keeping your site secure. (You may need your get your firewall administrator to update this setting.)

  • Protocol = UDP
  • IP Address = Any
  • Port, Source = 123
  • Port, Destination = > 1023
  • Action = Permit

If you are using personal firewall software — such as ZoneAlarm or BlackICE — you must change its appropriate settings so that it will allow Say the Time to access the Internet.
